Jökulsársandur is the sander of the meandering Jökulsá í Lóni. Like several travel and photo guides describe the drawn-out valley it is spectacular.
Travel Information
After leaving the ring road the jeep track starts relatively harmless with a few fords of a small stream. But then it becomes mountainous. Extreme slopes and gradients, partly directly at the abyss, and deep cross-drains of small runlets demand good driving skills, of course with a Four Wheel Drive.
