I spotted this waterfall as we were driving west on R1 about 11km west of the town of Djúpivogur. I hadn’t read anything about it during my research but saw a road leading in that general direction so I decided to see how close I could get to it. After a very short 100 meter walk I was rewarded with a very nice waterfall.

Photography Tips

It appears there is intent to improve access to the waterfall because an iron walkway was nearly completed that leads to a viewing platform near it. On the day of my visit the heavy spray from the waterfall made it almost impossible to snap a picture. Be prepared to protect your gear.C

Travel Information

From R1, turn west on Bragdavellir road and drive about .5 toward Bragdavellir Cottages, then continue another km on a dirt/gravel road. The road is a bit rough and as of Sept. 9,2025 there was no designated parking area but there was room to pull off the road on solid ground.
