Ireland Fanad Head Lighthouse
Stunning seascape/ lighthouse opportunities. Close to Ireland's most Northerly point, with a great night and Astro opportunities, as the aurora can be pretty decent here. Also a great opportunity for sunrises.
Fanad Head Lighthouse, located on the Fanad Peninsula in County Donegal, is one of Ireland’s most iconic lighthouses and a highlight of the Wild Atlantic Way. Standing proudly on a rocky headland between Lough Swilly and Mulroy Bay, the lighthouse overlooks the powerful Atlantic waves that crash against the rugged cliffs below. The surrounding landscape of green slopes, jagged rocks, and open sea makes this one of the most dramatic coastal viewpoints in Ireland.

Photography Tips
Get there early and scout around. Lots of good angles are possible. Be careful- a photographer fell off the cliffs and died here last year.
There are multiple great vantage points around Fanad Head. For this perspective, head down near the rocks below the main viewpoint to capture the power of the waves in the foreground and the lighthouse above. A wide-angle lens emphasizes scale and drama, while a telephoto lens works well from the upper parking area. Golden hour and stormy weather both create atmospheric lighting conditions — just be cautious of slippery rocks and strong winds when shooting near the water. A tripod and ND filter are useful for long exposures to smooth the motion of the sea.

Travel Information
There is a small parking area. You must drive as public transport doesn't go here to my knowledge.
Fanad Head Lighthouse is located about 40 minutes north of Letterkenny, at the northern tip of the Fanad Peninsula. There’s a parking area near the lighthouse, as well as a visitor center and small café. The site is open year-round, and guided tours of the lighthouse are available during the day. Entry fees apply for the tour, but access to the surrounding viewpoints is free. Facilities are limited, so bring snacks and warm clothing, especially if visiting at sunrise or sunset. Note: No overnight parking allowed here.
