Ireland Dunguaire Castle
An ancient castle in Ireland. Good to take photos from the lake side.
Dunguaire Castle, located just outside Kinvara in County Galway, is one of Ireland’s most picturesque medieval castles. Sitting gracefully on the shores of Galway Bay, its reflection often shimmers in the tidal waters below. Though small, the castle’s 16th-century tower house and surrounding stone walls make it an iconic stop along the Wild Atlantic Way. Even when closed to visitors, it remains a breathtaking sight to photograph from the nearby road — especially under changing Irish skies.

Photography Tips
Long time exposure to make the lake surface calm. Sunset or sunrise time is OK, try to find a good angle with the light.
The best vantage point is from the roadside across the water, where you can frame the castle with its reflection during calm conditions or capture dramatic skies sweeping across the bay. A telephoto lens (70–200mm) works well to isolate the castle, while a wide-angle lens allows for creative compositions with foreground elements like foliage or shoreline rocks. Early morning and late afternoon light provide warm tones, and low tide reveals interesting textures in the surrounding landscape. Overcast weather also suits the moody atmosphere of this historic spot.
