Ireland Cassie Bawn Castle, County Sligo
Cassie Bawn's Castle is a 19th century castle located on the Mullaghmore Peninsula near the village of Cliffoney (R279). It was part of a 10,000 acre estate at one point in time. I saw it in the distance as I was driving south on the N15 and had to get closer. I drove around the tip of the Mullagnmore Peninsula and took the shot looking south. The setting is stunning.
Photography Tips
It is right on the coast and very windy. Tripod is a must. I didn't walk far from the car for this shot.
For this powerful viewpoint, shoot from the coastal path below the main road near Mullaghmore Head. A telephoto lens (70–200mm) helps frame the castle tightly with the waves in the foreground. Timing is key — aim to capture a wave mid-crash to add motion and energy to your shot. Overcast skies enhance the moody atmosphere, while golden hour light warms the tones of the cliffs and castle stone. Use a fast shutter speed to freeze the motion of the sea, or experiment with slightly longer exposures for a softer effect — but stay safely back from the water’s edge.

Travel Information
The roads are paved to where I took the shot. Drive or bike as you wish.
Classiebawn Castle is located just outside the village of Mullaghmore in County Sligo, along Ireland’s Wild Atlantic Way. While the castle itself is private property and not open to visitors, there are numerous public viewpoints around the coastal road and along the beach offering excellent photo opportunities. Parking is available in Mullaghmore village or near the headland viewpoint. Weather can change quickly, so bring waterproof gear and secure your tripod if shooting near the ocean.
