The rooftop is a great place for shooting early morning and sunset views of Etna in comfort; just get out of bed and walk up the stairs. Enjoy a cold beer (if you brought it with you) as you wait for the sun to go down.
Photography Tips
Tripod and big telephoto. You'll probably find the middle of the day is not good for capturing the whole mountain - might was well drive up to the car park and take the cable car etc.
Travel Information
This spot is actually an agritourismo called La Rocca Della Rosa, in Zafferana and it has plenty of space.
The owners are friendly and would probably let you photograph from their rooftop even if you were not staying, but the convenience of staying there is the point.
Its about 30 Kms from the car park for the cable car but we saw very little accommodation much closer except a big hotel, which was probably too close for a decent view..
