Italy Drowned village

The Reschensee (Lago di Resia) in South Tyrol is famous for the partially submerged village of Graun, which was flooded in 1950 to create a reservoir. When the dam was built, several villages were submerged, leaving only the 14th-century church tower rising out of the water. This haunting tower has become an iconic symbol and a popular tourist attraction. In winter, when the lake freezes, people can walk out to the tower on the ice. The story of the flooded village reflects the dramatic changes caused by hydroelectric projects in the region.
