Il Monviso - 3.841 m s.l.m - also called King of Stone, is the highest mountain in the Cottian Alps.
The mountain is clearly visible from the western Po plain due to its pyramidal shape and its height of over 500 meters above the surrounding peaks; with 2,062 meters its prominence is the tenth of the entire Alpine arc and the twenty-third in all of Europe. It is also known because at its feet is the source of the river Po, the longest waterway in Italy
