On the south side of Campo Imperatore, high above Castel del Monte, lies a fascinatingly barren, slightly hilly landscape in front of snow-capped mountain walls. Supposedly it resembles Central Asian plateaus and is therefore called ‘Piccolo Tibet dell`Abruzzo’, small Tibet of Abruzzo.
