The Church of Maria Santissima del Monte, also known as the Church of Santa Maria del Monte or the Matrice (in Sicilian, a Matrìci), is a religious building located in the city of Caltagirone and serves as a minor basilica within the Diocese of Caltagirone.
It is located in Piazza della Matrice, above the Santa Maria del Monte staircase, and is one of the oldest churches in the city, as well as one of the highest in terms of elevation, standing at approximately 700 meters above sea level, while the town hall is located at 608 meters above sea level.
