Italy Grotta delle colombe
Various origins are attributed to the Grotte delle Colombe, some more legendary than others. For example, it is said that the cave was the setting for the secret love affair between the young shepherd Acis and the Nereid Galatea, a legendary couple from Greek mythology. The cave is believed to have been formed primarily by the 1669 eruption of Mount Etna. Locals call it “a rutta ri pallummi,” or “the cave of the doves,” because it once sheltered many of these birds.
Photography Tips
Check local drone regulations first. You might need to obtain a permit from the local authorities. Bring a polarizer to enhance the color of the water.

Once you're parked at the GPS point, there is a short descent leading down to the beach. From there, a trail climbs up the hillside, passing an old abandoned building. After a 15-minute walk, a steep staircase appears, leading to the top of the cave where an old defensive bunker is located. Bring good shoes, water and sunscreen.
