Italy Isolotto Brancati
A delightful, small natural island which, thanks to its location just a few meters off the coast and the unique layout of the buildings standing on it, has over time become one of the symbols of Marzamemi. In the early decades of the 20th century, Prof. Raffaele Brancati, a physician from Pachino and distinguished professor at the University of Catania’s School of Medicine, obtained a state concession for the islet. He had his summer residence built on the islet, a distinctive burgundy-red building, where he often hosted his cousin, the famous Pachinese writer Vitaliano Brancati, who drew poetic inspiration from that evocative setting. Toward the end of the 1930s, the state concession for the islet was converted into private ownership, and the place took the name Isolotto Brancati.
Photography Tips
Check local drone regulations first. You might need to obtain a permit from the local authorities. Aim for golden hour, especially sunrise, to get a beautiful light on the rocks.
Travel Information
Once you're parked at the GPS point, walk to the sea. You'll see the island from far. There are some nice restaurants to eat (and less touristy than the ones in Marzamemi).
