Italy Tour of the Victor Emmanuel II Monument
The Victor Emmanuel II National Monument, also known as the Vittoriano or for synecdoche Altare della Patria, is a large national monument built between 1885 and 1935 to honour Victor Emmanuel II, the first king of a unified Italy, in Rome, Italy. It occupies a site between the Piazza Venezia and the Capitoline Hill.
Photography Tips
I was able to explore this monument, which is majestic in both size and history. My tour began at the front of the monument, which is always crowded with people; I tried to incorporate some compositional elements by using the people and parts of the railing to create some framing. Then I climbed the steps on the right side, entered the interior, passed through the “Terrazza Italia,” and ended my tour at the “Fontana dell’Adriatico.” The entire tour offers great views of Rome; I tried to capture various details of the complex since there is so much to see, photograph, and practice. For the photos I took, I used almost all of my lenses, ranging from 14mm to 400mm.
