Italy Scalinata dell’Amore
The Scalinata dell’Amore are in the old town of Vieste, close to the town hall. The white steps are decorated with hearts and lines from the song about the local legend of Pizzomunno and Cristalda.
The legend tells the story of Pizzomunno, a young fisherman, and Cristalda, the woman he loved. The mermaids were jealous of their love and tried to take Pizzomunno away from her. When they attacked Cristalda, Pizzomunno tried to save her, but she disappeared into the sea. He was turned into a famous white rock on Vieste beach, now called Pizzomunno. According to the legend, every 100 years Cristalda returns from the sea and Pizzomunno becomes a man again for one night to reunite with her.

Travel Information
From Peschici, it takes about 30 minutes by car to reach Vieste. From the parking pin, it takes around 15 minutes to reach the stairs. In summer, parking gets busy, so it is better to arrive early.
