Japan Miyajima - Five-storey Pagoda

This is a pagoda part of the Itsukushima Shrine on Miyajima Island near Hiroshima, Japan. This island is, perhaps, better known for the oft-photographed Great Torii that sits in the water just behind/below this pagoda.

Photography Tips

As with most of Japan, this spot is incredibly photogenic but certainly benefits from the type of lighting in the sky - sunrise or sunset are ideal, and after a downpour can produce quite striking results. Likewise, the Spring Blossoms, or Autumn Leaves (as shot here) can add to the scene.

Travel Information

From Hiroshima, take the JR line to Miyajima Ferry and cross to Miyajima (~45 mins total). At Miyajiima, the pagoda sits on the hill between the town area and the Itsukushima Shrine.
