Aso-Kuju National Park, located in central Kyushu, Japan, is home to some of the country’s most dramatic volcanic landscapes. The park features Mount Aso, one of the world’s largest active calderas, and the Kuju Mountain Range, known for its scenic hiking trails and hot springs. Visitors can explore grassy plateaus, steaming vents, and lush forests, making it a paradise for nature lovers. Throughout the year, the park offers vibrant seasonal views, from cherry blossoms in spring to fiery foliage in autumn.

Photography Tips

Use a 24-70mm range for a normal landscape angle picture. The orange gras can be a good contrast to the mostly grey dark landscape.

Travel Information

Next to the visitor center and the museum is the Kusaenrigahama region with some view points to the Nakadake No. 1 crater. Especially if there is so much gas in the air it is a more or less safe zone to watch the activity from the far distance.

Always inform yourself at the visitor center which are possible at the day and which ones are closed due to the volcano activity. There can be changes every day. So be aware here in this region!
