Japan Kawachi Fujien, Kitakyushu
Hidden in the hills of Kitakyushu, Kawachi Fujien is one of Japan’s most enchanting gardens, famous for its breathtaking wisteria tunnels. Every spring mid to end April, cascading curtains of purple, white, and pink blossoms create a dreamlike passageway, inviting visitors to wander beneath a living canopy of flowers.
Photography Tips
If you have the chance to get tickets you need to book the very first slot. Be there exactly in time. Otherwise there will be people in your pictures. So be quick, run through the garden and search fast for your shots.
Travel Information
Getting to Kawachi Fujien is part of the adventure. The garden is located in Kitakyushu, Fukuoka Prefecture, about 30 minutes by train from Kokura Station to Yahata Station on the JR Kagoshima Line. From there, you can take a local bus or a short taxi ride to the entrance (around 20 minutes). During peak wisteria season, special shuttle buses often run directly to the garden—but tickets should be reserved early, as both the buses and the garden have timed-entry slots to manage the flow of visitors. If you have your own car you can park it in front of the gardens.
