Lake Motosu, one of the Fuji Five Lakes, is 11.6 km in circumference and the deepest of the Fuji Five Lakes. The view of Mt. Fuji from the observatory is said to have been the motif for the upside-down Fuji depicted on the old 1,000 yen and 5,000 yen bills.

Photography Tips

Neither sunrise nor sunset are worth seeing here. I've used my 35mm fixed lens for this picture.

Try so frame Mount Fuji a bit with the surrounding trees.

Travel Information

It is a 30-minute walk from the parking lot to the observation deck. On your way up you will meet nearly no other people. Very chilled place! Good for a picnic.
