The Minett Park Fond-de-Gras is an open-air museum that encompasses various historical sites, including Fond-de-Gras, the village of Lasauvage, the former open-pit mine "Giele Botter" and the Celtic oppidum of Titelberg. Due to its wide thematic scope, the Minett Park offers a range of complementary activities, all of which are unified by the common thread of iron ore.
At the Fond-de-Gras, several historic buildings have been preserved as a testament to the region's rich mining history, which spanned nearly a century. These preserved buildings include an electric power station, an old grocery store, a rolling mill train, a railway station, and railway sheds. Additionally, two historic trains still circulate:
Train 1900 and Minièresbunn

Photography Tips

Visit on weekends or event days when the Train 1900 operates with live steam. The best time to shoot is late morning to midday, when sunlight illuminates the tracks and rolling stock without deep shadows from the surrounding trees. A standard zoom (24–70mm) or short telephoto (70–100mm) lens is ideal for capturing both trains and context. To emphasize the movement and nostalgia, try using a slightly slower shutter speed (around 1/125s) as the locomotive departs. For a cinematic look, position yourself low to the tracks to include leading lines and a bit of foreground texture.

Minett Park Fond-de-Gras is located near Pétange, about 30 minutes by car or train from Luxembourg City. Entry to the park grounds is free, while train rides and museum visits require a small fee. The Train 1900 connects Fond-de-Gras with Pétange Station, while the Minièresbunn mine train offers an underground journey through former iron ore tunnels — a unique experience. There’s a small café and picnic area near the station, and the park is family-friendly, making it a great day trip for photography, history, and exploration alike.
