The Merdeka 118 Precinct offers several striking perspectives of Kuala Lumpur’s 678.9-metre Merdeka 118 tower. The photographs were taken at different locations around the precinct, including the grounds of Al-Sultan Abdullah Mosque and the Merdeka Textile Museum. The combination of the illuminated skyscraper with the historic and Islamic architecture creates a strong contrast between Kuala Lumpur’s modern skyline and its architectural heritage. Landscaped areas, palm trees and illuminated water features provide additional foreground elements for night photography.

The locations are particularly interesting after dark when Merdeka 118 is illuminated. Wide-angle lenses are useful for capturing the tower together with the surrounding architecture and landscaping, while longer focal lengths allow the tower to be isolated or visually compressed against the historic buildings. The fountains and water features offer strong foreground elements and reflections. At the mosque and textile museum, look for compositions that deliberately combine the traditional architecture with the modern tower in the background.

The three locations are situated within the central Merdeka area of Kuala Lumpur and can be visited as one photography route. Allow around 1–2 hours to explore the different viewpoints. The area can easily be combined with Merdeka Square, Petaling Street and Kwai Chai Hong.
