Malaysia Ombak KLCC Shopping Mall, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

Ombak KLCC opened in August 2026 and is one of Kuala Lumpur's newest architectural landmarks. The building was designed by Kohn Pedersen Fox (KPF) under Design Principal Mustafa Chehabeddine. Its flowing, wave-like architecture is inspired by both the movement of water and traditional Malaysian weaving, creating a striking combination of sweeping curves, layered bands and dramatic cantilevered structures.

The building offers an unusually wide variety of photographic perspectives indoors and outdoors, during both day and night. Inside, the spectacular central atrium with its curved balconies, escalators and large skylight creates abstract architectural compositions. Outside, the illuminated façade, rooftop areas and surrounding KLCC skyline provide completely different perspectives, particularly after dark. The building also houses the new GALERI PETRONAS, which is being opened in phases.

Ombak KLCC is worth photographing at different times of day and from many different positions. During daylight, the open terraces and rooftop areas provide expansive views over the KL skyline, while the flowing architecture creates strong geometric compositions. Indoors, a wide-angle lens is particularly useful for the dramatic atrium, curved balconies, escalators and skylights. Look for abstract details, repeating lines and unusual perspectives rather than only conventional architectural views.

After dark, the illuminated façade creates a completely different atmosphere. Long exposures can emphasize the flowing light bands and reflections, while the surrounding buildings provide additional layers. Experiment with both very wide perspectives and tighter architectural details. A tripod is useful for night shots, particularly around the exterior water features and illuminated structures.

Ombak KLCC is located at 20 Persiaran KLCC, directly within the KLCC precinct. It is about a 2-minute walk from Persiaran KLCC MRT station and around 10 minutes on foot from the Petronas Twin Towers, with pedestrian connections through KLCC Park. A complimentary buggy service also connects Ombak KLCC with Suria KLCC and other points within the precinct.

The building is open daily from 10:00–22:00. There are 427 parking spaces, making it practical to arrive by car. The rooftop Sky Garden and Stargazing Plaza are additional outdoor areas worth exploring.

For photography, I would allow at least 1–2 hours, preferably visiting once during daylight and again after dark.
