Montenegro On Lake Skardar
Lake Skardar is the largest lake in Southern Europe, seasonally fluctuating between 370 and 530 square kilometres. Some of it the Albania and some in Montenegro. One part is nature reserve, the other is a protected national park. There are springs at various locations, keeping, clean, water flowing into the bottom of the lake. The water is generally clear, with large areas covered in water lilies - there are paths through them kept open by boat traffic. There are hundreds of bird species and abundant fish. This is the same lake whose loops are seen at Pavlova and Mirador.
Photography Tips
You'll be moving, so a higher shutter speed, say 1/250, will help freeze the action.
Travel Information
You can hire a boat, either by yourself or by joining a group, at Rijeka Crnojevića. A better selection of boats and options is available at Virpazar, where you can also pick up the daily permit needed for being in the park on a boat for 5 Euros each (it goes towards protecting the environment) near the boat jetty. Parking is often available in the road heading up the hill from the town. Its closer to the jetty and there are fewer touts. One boat company even offers a good coffee and fresh filled croissant as part of the deal.
