On a farm just outside the town of Grootfontein there is what appears to be a big flat, textured rock. Only it's not rock, it's metal, a 66 tonne slab of iron and nickel, the largest intact meterorite ever discovered on earth's surface.

Photography Tips

You can only visit in daylight opening hours during which time the sun will already be harsh most days. But the surface of the meteorite has great texture and you can photograph it up close from any angle.

Easy to get to, 15 min drive from Grootfontein, plenty of parking and a low-cost entrance fee payable at the small visitor centre.
