Netherlands View of Central Station, Amsterdam
Amsterdam Central Station is the city’s main railway hub and one of the busiest in the Netherlands. Opened in 1889, it was designed by architect Pierre Cuypers, who also created the Rijksmuseum. The building combines Gothic and Renaissance Revival styles and stands on three artificial islands supported by thousands of wooden piles. Today it serves as the gateway to Amsterdam, connecting trains, trams, buses, and ferries, while also being a striking landmark along the IJ waterfront.
