New Zealand Mirror Lake walk on the road to Milford Sound

  • Please log in or sign up for free to see the GPS coordinates & weather for this photo spot
A short (400m) walk on the side of the road to Milford Sound. If there is no wind, you can get glass like reflections off the surface of the lake.

Photography Tips

Get there early as the wind will ruin the reflections and the tour buses will bring the masses. Also, it can be quite annoying that ducks are tolling around in the small lake. Try to ditch them by moving away. They are quite curious, so dont go where other photographers stand and find a unique perspective, even if not the cleanest view.

Travel Information

Its about 45 minutes drive from Te Anau on the road to Milford Sound and offers a great chance to stretch the legs. Plenty of parking.
Try and get on the road before the tour buses to avoid the crowds. Leaving Te Anau by 7:30 am should give you some quiet time on the road. There is also super close DOC camping from which you only need to drive a few minutes to the lakes.
