Took this shot on my last day hiking the Te Araroa trail in New Zealand. Sunrise. The colors lasted maybe 5 minutes. I think it was the best picture of my whole trip.

Photography Tips

Probably a good spot for sunsets over Stewart Island to the west too. Also good vantage point for shooting the whole peninsula.

Travel Information

Easy road access. Parking right by the lookout. Walk the spiral ramp about 100 meters to the top. Large flat area to setup tripods and a chair if you’ve got a wait planned.
