The PS Waimarie was built in London in 1899 assembled in Whanganui. and named PS Aotea, she began service with the Wanganui Settlers River Steamship Co. The Waimarie operated a regular service between Wanganui and Pipiriki, carrying cargo, mail and passengers. She ceased running in 1952. After sinking at her moarings 40 years later was lifted and restored and runs as a tourist boat on the Whanganui River.
