Tane Mahuta is the name of the giant Kauri tree. In English the meaning is Lord of the forest. It is 50 meters tall, 14 meters girth and it´s 2000 years old.
A lot of epiphytes grow in the upper branches of Kauri trees, These, in turn, support additional life forms, such as opossums that have invaded from Australia.
