New Zealand Glaciers above French Ridge Hut, Mt Aspiring National Park

Mount Aspiring National Park offers many great opportunities for multi day hikes. This spot just 1 1/2 km over the French Ridge Hut has mind-blowing views into the below the peaks hanging glaciers. L From here, lots of waterfalls running down into the valley.

Use the time after sunset for some blue-hour shots and play a bit with headlamps or flashlights. It gives you a different vibe and complete a series from starting the hike in the morning until ending the day late in the evening.

Start your hiking at the Rasperry Flat Carpark. The trail to the French Ridge Hut is about 17km with around 1579 meter of elevation and is a very long and challenging hike. The last three kilometers are very steep and sometimes slippery. You definitely need experience in the mountains to get to this hut.

If you want to come to this marked spot, you need to go further the up a scree ramp until you reach the old glacier traverse. From there, it is another kilometer or so until the views over the large glaciers open up. In total, there are around 200 extra meters in altitude.

Don´t go in bad weather and check this almost in advance.
