New Zealand Cape Brett Lighthouse, Cape Brett
The Cape Brett Track traverses rugged terrain through native and regenerating bush until you reach the end of the cliffs at the Cape Brett Lighthouse. Features of the track are dramatic coastal views, steep cliffs and drop-offs to the side of the track into the deep blue ocean.
Photography Tips
Check your camera settings before the evening and make sure you understand everything for night photography. Use a tripod, the manual focus, put of the stabilization, and use the lowest aperture. In comparison to this you can try out what ISO fits to the shutter speed. Use not longer than 20 seconds for stars cause they are slowly moving.
Travel Information
This 30,3 km out-and-back trail with around 1791 meter of elevation is a challenging hike and requires a really good level of fitness. The track is sometimes muddy, thousands of cicadas along the path through the dense bush can be very annoying at times. Also you need to book a permit for the trail via https://www.doc.govt.nz/ !
Park your car at Hauai Bay or in one of the private properties like the Oke Bay Lodge. There are parking signs from some house owners where you can drive on and pay a fee.
On your way back you could hike a shorter way and drive with a boat from Deep Water Cove back to your starting point. However, the approximately shorter 10 kilometers are very expensive (per boat around 300 Dollars) and must be organized in advance.
At the end of the track is the Cape Brett Hut, one of the most remote huts on the North Island. Book a night in this hut, it feels like a perfect off-time from everything.
If you want to stay the night in the hut you need to reserve the hut before you go. The department of conversation as a professional homepage with all important informations: https://www.doc.govt.nz/
