Hooker Valley Track offers stunning views into the glacier rivers of Mueller Lake and Hooker Lake. Surrounded by one of the highest mountains in New Zealand you are crossing several swing bridges. As an easy hike without much meters of elevation it is a must do.

Photography Tips

Work with the water as a leading line towards the mountains.

Travel Information

This 10.9-km out-and-back trail with 197 meter of elevation is an easy hike and requires a normal level of fitness.

Park at the huge parking lot. This track can be overcrowded during the day. So hike it in the early morning or evening.

*Important information: The first part of the Hooker valley track is currently closed due to construction work on one of the swinging bridges. They probably finish the work September 2026. The only chance to go to the bivy is to cross the big river. Please inform yourself is this is possible on your day.
