New Zealand Brewster Hut (Up the Trail to the Glacier)
Brewster Hut is a cozy 12-bunk backcountry hut perched at 1,460 m (4,790 ft) in Mount Aspiring National Park, offering spectacular views over the Haast Valley and the surrounding Southern Alps. Popular with hikers, climbers, and photographers, it serves as the ideal base for exploring Brewster Glacier and experiencing unforgettable alpine sunrises and sunsets.
Photography Tips
Wait out here for sunset before retuning to the hut. It's the best spot to have a look on the setting sun since the hut will get into shade quite early in comparison.
Travel Information
Brewster Hut is accessible only on foot via the steep Brewster Track from the Fantail Falls car park on Haast Pass. The hike takes 2–3 hours one way with approximately 1,000 m (3,280 ft) of elevation gain, and the hut must be booked in advance through New Zealand's Department of Conservation (DOC). To get to the elevated mountain spot, you need to continue hiking gradually steep up the mountain for another good hour and a half.
