Earnslaw Burn Landing is the gateway to the spectacular Earnslaw Burn, a glacial valley renowned for its towering waterfalls, hanging glaciers, and dramatic alpine scenery beneath the slopes of Mount Earnslaw.

Photography Tips

Expose for the highlights on this spot since otherwise parts of the glacier will be burned out. At the same time, keep an eye on a relatively fast shutter to have a sharp waterfall.

Travel Information

Earnslaw Burn is located within Mount Aspiring National Park, west of Glenorchy. The valley is most commonly accessed via the Earnslaw Burn Track, a 14 km return hike taking 6-8 hours, while helicopter landings provide quicker access to the upper valley and surrounding alpine viewpoints.

The hike is nothing easy-going. Since its not maintained and heavy storms destroyed the trail here and there, this is quite some obstacle run.
