New Zealand Heather Jock Hut (Day)

Heather Jock Hut is a remote backcountry hut tucked away in the upper Perth Valley of Westland Tai Poutini National Park. Surrounded by native forest, alpine rivers, and towering Southern Alps peaks, it provides a peaceful base for experienced trampers exploring one of New Zealand's most rugged and untouched wilderness areas.

Wait exactly for the sun to hit the mountain range on the opposite side of the hut so that you can get nice flares from the sun.

Heather Jock Hut is accessible only on foot via the Perth River Track, starting near Whataroa on New Zealand's West Coast. Reaching the hut is a challenging backcountry journey that typically takes 6–8 hours one way, involving river crossings and unmarked sections, making it suitable only for experienced hikers with strong navigation skills and favorable weather conditions.
