Mount Earnslaw (Pikirakatahi) is a majestic 2,819 m (9,249 ft) peak in the Southern Alps, towering above Glenorchy and Mount Aspiring National Park. Its snow-covered summit, hanging glaciers, and rugged ridgelines make it one of New Zealand's most iconic mountains and a spectacular backdrop for the Earnslaw Burn, Rees Valley, and Lake Wakatipu.

Travel Information

Heather Jock Hut is accessible only on foot via the Perth River Track, starting near Whataroa on New Zealand's West Coast. Reaching the hut is a challenging backcountry journey that typically takes 6–8 hours one way, involving river crossings and unmarked sections, making it suitable only for experienced hikers with strong navigation skills and favorable weather conditions.
