Sefton Bivouac is a tiny emergency-style alpine shelter perched high above the Mueller Glacier in
Aoraki / Mount Cook National Park. Surrounded by towering icefalls, steep rock faces, and the dramatic peaks of Mount Sefton and Aoraki / Mount Cook, it offers one of the most spectacular high-alpine settings in New Zealand and is often used by climbers and experienced mountaineers.

Photography Tips

Dont just focus on the bivvy itself. If you have a good look from an elevated position, you will see the infamous Mueller Hut in the distance, lying just under the other stunning towering mountains. Take a big zoom lens to achieve a photo.

Travel Information

If you feel like, climbing a bit further up from Sefton Bivvy is recommended. The path is mostly gravel and not too hard. Just take care not to go over your limits since there is no marked trail anymore.
