Chan Chan was the ancient capital of the Chimu Kingdom, and is the largest adobe city in the Americas. The Nik An Palace is the only walled citadel restored and opened to visitors, and it holds the best preserved carvings and decoration in the site.

This section of the ruins sits under a roof installation that protects the remains from the weather. Other parts are left open, including the exterior wall, which also preserves great detail.

Chan Chan sits to the northwest of the city of Trujillo, on the road to Huanchaco.
