Mag-Aso Falls is a stunning natural attraction featuring striking 8-to-25-meter twin waterfalls dropping into a deep, milky-blue and turquoise pool. The name comes from the local word "aso" (smoke), inspired by the thick mist rising from the rushing water. Note: There are two famous locations in the Philippines with this name—Kabankalan City in Negros Occidental and Antequera in Bohol. Scenery and EnvironmentWater and Mist: Clear, mineral-rich turquoise water that creates a cool, smoky vapor effect in the air.Greenery: Tucked inside lush tropical forests, surrounded by tall trees, giant ferns, and rugged rock formations. The Descent: Visitors typically walk down a long flight of concrete steps (around 100+ steps) built into the hillside to reach the main basin.

Photography Tips

To capture great photos at Mag-aso Falls in Kabankalan City, Negros Occidental, arrive early in the morning for soft light and fewer crowds. Use a tripod with a neutral density (ND) filter to get that smooth, milky look on the 120-foot drop, and protect your gear from the heavy mist near the turquoise pool Best Photo SpotsThe Viewing Deck: Stands above the basin to give you a clean, wide shot of the entire multi-tiered waterfall and surrounding forest.Base of the Falls: Get close to the turquoise pool for dramatic, low-angle vertical frames that emphasize the height of the rushing water. Position yourself near the mini-pond area to use the rustic wooden log connector as a natural leading line into your frame. Essential Camera Settings & GearUse a Tripod: Keeps your low-light or long-exposure shots sharp.Attach an ND Filter: Allows slow shutter speeds (1/2 to 2 seconds) during the day to turn rushing water silky without overexposing the image.Polarizing Filter: Cuts glare off wet rocks and deepens the vibrant blue hue of the pool.Lens Cloth: Crucial for wiping off constant fine mist and water droplets from your front element.Safety and Practical TipsWatch Your Step: Moss makes the submerged rocks and 108 concrete stairs extremely slick. Wear water shoes or rugged sandals with a strong grip.Keep Gear Dry: Use a waterproof dry bag while walking across the slippery pool edges or climbing near the heavy spray.
