Portugal Cais Palafitico de Carrasqueira
The Palafitic Wharf of Carrasqueira is one of the most visited places in Portugal. This masterpiece of folk architecture, built in the 1950s and 1960s, is unique in Europe and is built on seemingly fragile uneven wooden piles that dock the fishing boats that dock there. A point of tourist attraction, the pier still fulfills the mission for which it was built: to allow fishermen access to boats, even during low tide. It still serves local fishermen.
While there, do go and visit the local authentic fish restaurants.

Photography Tips
Tripod is advisable though not always convenient to place due to the uneven surface full of holes. It can be done but keep your camera under constant watchful eyes. Also mind the people walking behind you, fishermen and photographers alike. Shoot long exposures when "coast" is clear.
Travel Information
I have been to this spot and it is worth to mention that the last couple of hundred meters you will be driving on a dirt road full of holes and obstacles, so if you wish to spare your tires, drive carefully.
