Portugal Poço do Inferno (Hell's Hole / Hell's Well)
Near Manteigas, in the Serra da Estrela, a waterfall plunges into a small, difficult-to-reach gorge. The pond in the gorge drains via cascades to the level of the road and further below.
Travel Information
Just as adventurous as the access to the waterfall is the approach on a cycle path-wide asphalt road with steep inclines, declines and very tight bends. Via winding stairs and footbridges you can reach the pond into which the water falls. Surefootedness is required, also on the stones around the water.
