The Cristo Rei statue in Almada is a towering monument inspired by Brazil’s Christ the Redeemer. Built in the 1950s, it symbolizes gratitude for Portugal being spared from World War II. With open arms facing Lisbon, it offers one of the best panoramic views of the city and the Tejo River.

Travel Information

You can reach Cristo Rei by taking the ferry from Lisbon’s Cais do Sodré to Cacilhas, then continuing by bus or walking uphill to the monument. It's also accessible by car or taxi via the 25 de Abril Bridge.
