Portugal Emigrant Square Sunset
A four-meter diameter globe, covered in Portuguese paving stones, forms the central element of Praça do Emigrante, in Ribeira Grande, a new public space in São Miguel, in the Azores.
The piece dominates Praça do Emigrante, in the city on the north coast of São Miguel, an urban public space that the city council of Ribeira Grande inaugurated on July 26, 2020.
The globe “is the world, the Azores and the Azoreans around the world; the basalt represents the islands”, pointed out Luís Silva, highlighting the role of the Association of Azorean Emigrants and the Municipal Council of Ribeira Grande, for having “supported the project from the beginning”.
The new square, with an area of approximately 4 thousand square meters, is located in front of Arquipélago — Contemporary Arts Center.
