Portugal Church of Our Lady of the Star Portuguese

The Ribeira Grande Parish Church on the Azorean island of São Miguel was built in the early 16th century on the site of the former Chapel of Our Lady of Loreto. The Parish Church was still under construction when it was consecrated by Bishop Duarte in 1517.
In 1563, part of the town of Ribeira Grande was destroyed by the eruption of the Berlengas Peak volcano, causing the Parish Church to suffer significant damage, exacerbated in the early 17th century by the collapse of the tower. The restoration work was very lengthy, lasting over 100 years. This explains the numerous architectural and ornamental features found in the church.
It features a Mannerist façade with Baroque ornamentation, sandwiched between two distinctly unrelated structures. On the left, an annex resembling a rural house, and on the right, a robust quadrangular basalt tower topped by a balustrade and pinnacles. Eight bell towers and eight balustraded windows are torn into the faces.

Nice spot to take photos of City Hall and Garden Hall. Also good place to watch sunset.
