Portugal Passadiços e Moinhos da Ribeira de São João (Labruja)
A hidden natural refuge located in Labruja, the oldest town in Portugal (Ponte de Lima). This enchanting trail follows the Ribeira de São João along beautifully integrated wooden walkways, carving through a lush, movie-like green valley filled with ancient traditional watermills. It is a highly serene and visually rich location where history meets untouched nature, making it a perfect spot for anyone looking to slow down and capture stunning landscapes away from the crowds
Photography Tips
To capture the silky, smooth water motion seen in this photo, a tripod is essential along with a Neutral Density (ND) filter to allow a slow shutter speed under daylight conditions. Early morning or overcast days are ideal to get soft, even lighting across the vibrant green vegetation and avoid harsh contrast or overexposed white water patches. Use a wide-angle or standard lens to frame the cascading waterfalls in layers, incorporating the foreground river rocks and golden autumn leaves as leading lines that guide the viewer’s eye through the frame
Travel Information
The spot is located in the parish of Labruja, roughly a 10-minute drive from the center of Ponte de Lima. The trail itself is a short, easy circular walk of around 2 to 4 kilometers that is accessible to all fitness levels. Free parking is readily available right at the trailhead next to the Ecomuseu da Serra da Labruja. Public restrooms and information points are also accessible at the museum facility before you start the walk. It is highly recommended to wear footwear with good grip, as the wooden paths and rocky areas near the water can become quite damp and slippery.
