O cais foi construído entre as décadas de 1950 e 1960 por pescadores locais para superar a dificuldade de acessar os barcos durante a baixa-mar, quando o lodo do estuário impedia a aproximação à água. Inicialmente, pequenas estacas e passadiços de madeira foram instalados, e ao longo do tempo a estrutura evoluiu para um labirinto de passadiços interligados, permitindo o acesso contínuo aos barcos e armazenagem de materiais de pesca
