Unweit des Dorfes Cârțișoara beginnt eine der berühmtesten Straßen Rumäniens – die Transfăgărășan. Von hier aus windet sich die Nationalstraße DN7C in engen Serpentinen, durch Tunnel und über Viadukte steil hinauf in die Hochlagen der Südkarpaten bis auf über 2.000 Meter Höhe und verbindet die historischen Regionen Siebenbürgen und Walachei.
