Slovakia (Slovak Republic) Sunset over Siva Brada.
Sivá Brada, located near Spišské Podhradie, is a very popular and touristically interesting location. It is a travertine mound with a height of roughly 25 meters from the base to the summit. It is remarkable because, unlike other similar mounds, it is a "living" travertine mound. Its life is sustained by welling water, which causes the travertine hill to expand every year.
Photography Tips
Sivá Brada is most photogenic during sunset, but it is also possible to photograph the Milky Way from there. The ideal lens is either a wide-angle or a standard 24-70mm. The ideal seasons are summer and winter.
Travel Information
There is a large parking lot located directly below Sivá Brada, and from there it is only a 5-minute walk to the hill. Please note that there are quite a lot of people there during the day, as it is a pilgrimage site. Therefore, it is better to come for the sunset, when there is already a minimal number of people.
