The Kriška jezera lakes are surrounded by Julian Alp summits of Razor, Planja, Križ, Stenar, Bovški Gamsovec and Pihavec. They are some 500 m higher than the nearby mountains. Inhabited by marmots, chamois and ibex, in the summer this picturesque area glows with the colours of typical Alpine plants. the The upper lake, Zgornje Kriško jezero is highest lahke in Slovenia. On this shot you also find the highest mountain in Slovenia - Triglav.

Photography Tips

Good hike condition is recomemnded. Best early in the morning. Half hour hike from mountain hut.
In this area you can find a lot of peaks , animals and also two more lakes for some great photos

Travel Information

On the Bovec-Trenta road, take a right into Zadnjica. Continue until you reach the end of the Zadnjica road, then park your car. From there, a marked mountain trail leads to the Pogačnikov dom mountain lodge on Kriški podi near the lakes. Hiring a mountain guide is recommended.
There are a shorther hiking trails from valley Vrata.
All hikes are 4+ hous and total ascent over 1200 m
