The emblematic Butterfly House stands proudly in Almería's central Puerta de Purchena district, declared a Site of Cultural Interest. Built in 1909 based on plans by architect Trinidad Cuartara, the building stands out for its bourgeois architecture and modernist ornamentation, highlighted at night by lighting that highlights every detail, especially the decorative railings and the famous metal butterflies on the tower. After its restoration by Cajamar in 2010, the building regained its splendor, becoming a symbolic beacon of Almería's urban heritage.

Photography Tips

Shooting time: Just before sunrise (blue hour) to capture the natural light of the sky and the architectural lighting without overexposing the LEDs. There are usually a lot of people and traffic in the square, so the best option is to go early in the morning.

Recommended settings:

Multiple shots to capture a panoramic view
Lens: Wide Angle 16-24 mm (the shots for this panorama were taken with a 22 mm lens)

Tripod: essential

ISO 100

Aperture f/8–f/11 to achieve sharpness throughout the building.

Slow shutter speed using a tripod (2–10 s).

Composition:

Frame the building from the front in a centered position to emphasize symmetry and the tower.

Also shoot diagonally from a corner to emphasize perspective and volume.

Look for significant close-ups that contextualize the building within the surroundings of the Puerta de Purchena.
