This image captures one of the iconic images of Nicolás Salmerón Park, the city's grand landscaped promenade. In the foreground is the Dolphin Fountain. Behind it stands the historic Warehouse of Naval Effects, Furniture, and Travel Goods (1922), an emblematic building that bears witness to Almería's commercial past and its close relationship with its port. Its eclectic architecture with modernist touches and large windows reflect the solidity and prosperity of the maritime industry at the time. To the left is an example of the developmentalist architecture of the 1960s, which transformed the city's architectural appearance in a haphazard manner. To the left is a building that exemplifies the bourgeois architecture of the early 20th century, during the city's economic boom.

Photography Tips

Ideal time: The "blue hour" (just after sunset) is magical. The artificial lighting of the fountain and the façade combines with the residual light from the sky, creating an atmosphere of deep blue and orange tones. The "golden hour" of the evening bathes the façade in a warm light that enhances its texture.

Composition: The framing is classic and effective. For a different perspective, get close to the fountain and use it as a natural frame for the building. Including the movement of passersby or swaying palm trees adds life and dynamism.

Technique: A tripod is essential for night or long-exposure shots, allowing you to capture the fountain's water with a silky effect. To freeze daytime movement, use a higher shutter speed.

Black and White: The scene, with its strong textures and architectural lines, is ideal for a high-contrast black and white conversion, highlighting shapes and volumes.

Travel Information

How to get there:

On foot: This is the best way to experience the area. Nicolás Salmerón Park is completely pedestrianized in its central section. It can be easily accessed from the historic center (10-15 minutes from Puerta de Purchena) or from the Marina.

Public Transportation: Numerous city bus lines stop on Paseo de Almería (the main street parallel to the park). The nearest stops are in Plaza de las Velas on Avenida Federico García Lorca.

Where to park:

Avoid parking on the surrounding streets (blue and green zones with maximum parking limit); they are often full.

The best option is to use the paid public parking at the Port of Almería.

Other tips:

Combine your visit: From here, you can head to the historic city center, visit the Almería Heritage Interpretation Center in Plaza de la Constitución, or visit the historic site of the Alcazaba.

Grab a bite: There are several bars and cafe-kiosks throughout the park, perfect for a break with a view.
